My lab works on the principle of a happy living, hard work, respect to elders, and contribution to the society and the country. Students interested in pursuing Ph.D. and M.Tech./M.E. projects in the area of microengineering, biomedical engineering, and electronic systems engineering are welcomed to contact me via E-mail. Please look at the IISc admission website for determining your eligibility.
DESE is looking for bright candidates to join the Ph.D. program.
Microsystems, Sensors, and Biomedical Devices:
The use of micro- and nanotechnology for biomedical applications is an upcoming research area with a potential for prognosis and early diagnosis of several diseases. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Amongst cancers, Breast and Cervical Cancer are the most common types of cancer in women. Early diagnosis, routine monitoring, and tracking of disease progression and drug response are the extremely important. We seek to understand and exploit novel ways of fabricating microengineering devices using glass, silicon, polymers and integrate with unusual classes of micro/nanomaterials for early diagnosis of cancer, disease progression and evaluating the drug response. We are working on integrating biology/medicine with microtechnology, nanotechnology and additive manufacturing to develop innovative tools that can be used to solve unmet clinical problems. We are also working on developing the smart sensors and technologies for biomedical robotics with an emphasis on developing smart catheters. Our efforts are multidisciplinary and combine expertise from different fields of technical study.
Basic understanding of microfabrication technology and aptitude towards design, simulation, and fabrication of microengineered devices for biomedical applications. Experience in Class 1000/10000 clean room and knowledge of design tools like SolidWorks, Catia, Pro E, and understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques will be an advantage. A strong knowledge of programming languages is advantageous.
